The family believed the father had been working in Australia for two years… until police dug beneath a factory floor and uncovered a horrifying truth
The skeletal remains of a father who supposedly ghosted his family while working in Australia are believed to have been recovered in western India.
DNA profiling is underway to confirm the discovery made three metres below a factory in Jamnagar, Gujarat, is in fact Jignesh Mavadiya, who has not been heard from for two years.
Three people including the man’s wife and her alleged lover have been taken into custody.
Family was told the man had moved to Australia but could not be contacted because his employer did not allow phone calls, police said.
Loved ones grew suspicious when the man’s wife allegedly failed to hand over his address or contact information to a relative who was planning their own travel to Australia.
A missing person report was then filed with Indian officials.
Police said powertools were needed to cut through thick concrete covering the site where it is believed Mavadiya, a father of two young daughters, was buried.
Investigators allege the man was lured to a party in May 2024 where he was given a cyanide-laced drink and died, before being inhumed.
DNA profiling of the skeletal remains is ongoing.
“To ascertain the identity of the deceased, the remains have been handed over to forensic experts,” a local assistant superintendent said, reported The Hindu.
“The victim’s wife, her alleged lover, and one of their associates have been arrested.”
The investigation continues.
