Fans of gripping thrillers are in for a treat with Netflix’s latest offering.
The streaming giant Netflix has just released all episodes of a brand new cult thriller which follows an oppressive Christian sect.
The six-part miniseries is the perfect binge and it boasts a star-studded cast, including Asa Butterfield, Siobhan Finneran and Christopher Eccleston.
Rosie (played by Molly Windsor) is at the heart of the story and she is a devoted wife and mother who finds herself torn between two worlds.

She is determined to please her husband Adam (Butterfield), but her life is turned upside down when she meets an escaped convict, Sam (Fra Fee).
Unchosen is the series in question and it can be described as The Handmaid’s Tale meets Happy Valley.

Unchosen is about an oppressive Christian cult
Like The Handmaid’s Tale, the series has an almost dystopian feel as it is set within a conservative cult known as The Fellowship of the Divine.
Adam’s behaviour towards his wife Rosie behind closed doors is exposed in the show’s trailer as he warns her he “cannot have a wilful wife”.
Corruption stems from the top of the hierarchy as cult leader Mr Phillips (Christopher Eccleston) is hiding some dark secrets of his own.
As is the case in The Handmaid’s Tale, the females within the series are trapped by those who vow protection from the temptations of the world outside.

The Netflix thriller is dark and eerie
Away from the cult, in the outside world, is Sam – a troubled convict who escapes prison and runs into Rosie in unforeseen circumstances.
His character has an air of James Norton’s Tommy Lee Royce in Happy Valley, and it of course stars Happy Valley legend, Siobhan Finneran.
The police force’s hunt for Sam, his harrowing backstory and his emotional baggage also draw similarities with the BBC crime drama.
Netflix’s official synopsis for Unchosen reads: “When a young mother from a sheltered cult crosses paths with a mysterious stranger, she embarks on a risky affair that awakens desires and dark secrets.”
