A 93-year-old man has died at the scene of a crash on Victor Harbor road in SA’s south

A elderly man has died after a serious crash in regional South Australia with major crash officers now investigating the circumstances.

The man, a 93‑year‑old from Myponga, was killed during a collision between an SUV and a garbage truck at Hindmarsh Valley, near Victor Harbor on Saturday morning.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Victor Harbor Rd and Hindmarsh Tiers Rd just after 11am following reports the Ford SUV had collided with the truck.

Nearly a dozen people have been killed on Victor Harbor Rd since 2010, making it one of SA’s deadliest stretches of road.

The elderly driver died at the scene despite best efforts from paramedics.

The 51‑year‑old truck driver, from Hindmarsh Island, was not injured.

Victor Harbor Rd remains closed as Major Crash officers examine the scene and work to determine how the collision occurred.
