Two men have been charged after explosives were allegedly used to steal cash from an ATM.

A group of three men allegedly used a homemade device to gain access to the machine on Victoria St, in Melbourne’s CBD, about 2.45am on May 13.

But the explosive ignited in the face of one of the men, leaving him with “serious and life changing injuries” according to police.

About $5000 was stolen from the ATM before the trio ran away and the injured man was located soon after on Peel St.

Police on Monday tasered and arrested a 40-year-old man from Brunswick West with an alleged connection to the incident.

He was later charged with 20 alleged offences, including causing an explosion likely to cause serious injury to property.

It comes after another 40-year-old man was arrested on May 29 and charged with theft, using an explosive and conduct endangering life.
