Rapper Corey “C-Murder” Miller talked exclusively to WDSU about a key witness who recently recanted his testimony that Miller shot and killed a teenager in 2002.

Speaking to WDSU by phone, Miller responded by saying, “I want him to know I’m not upset with him. I’m proud of him. And me and my family, and my daughters. My daughters, we thank him. For real. This is a life-changing moment.”

Miller is currently serving a sentence of life without parole in the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola. A jury voted 10-2 on Aug. 11, 2009, to convict him in the death of Steven Thomas.

Thomas was shot and killed at Platinum Club in Harvey in 2002.

Days later, Miller was arrested for the killing.

“I’m not gonna lie. These last 16 years have been a definite struggle. I’ve been snatched away from my family, separated from my kids, from my career, everything. And I just want it back,” Miller said.

Now that the witness has come forward, Miller said, for the first time in a while, he has hope that he may not die in prison.

He also said he is glad his family, friends and fans continue to fight for justice for him.

“My heart hasn’t smiled since I’ve been locked up for 16 years, and I just want them to know that my heart is smiling,” Miller said.
