Meghan Markle revealed the meaningful gift Prince Harry gave her to celebrate eight years of marriage — and the touching throwback behind it.

The Duchess of Sussex, 44, shared footage from an intimate anniversary celebration at home on her Instagram Stories on Tuesday, May 19, capturing the moment Harry, 41, surprised her with a bronze sculpture of two penguins nestled closely together.

In the clip, Meghan gasps as the statue is uncovered from beneath a cloth, visibly stunned by the sentimental present. The bronze material is traditionally associated with eighth wedding anniversaries as a symbol of strength and durability in marriage.

“What?” Meghan exclaims as Harry laughs nearby. A tiny hand — seemingly belonging to the couple’s son, 7-year-old Prince Archie — reaches out to touch the sculpture while Meghan says, “Oh my gosh.”

The gift carried an even sweeter meaning tied to one of the couple’s most private pre-wedding memories.

Speaking to Archie and daughter Princess Lilibet in the video, Meghan explains, “When mama and papa got engaged, we had a party with all of our friends, and we said, ‘Everyone wear an animal onesie.’ ”

“We were penguins,” she says, holding up a printed photo of herself and Harry dressed in matching penguin costumes. “Because we’re together for life.”

The playful nod harked back to the secret engagement celebration the couple hosted in Norfolk shortly after Harry proposed in 2017 — before their engagement was publicly announced to the world. Friends gathered for the last night of the low-key weekend bash dressed in animal onesies, with Harry and Meghan choosing penguins as a symbol of lifelong partnership.

In another clip, Meghan revealed the handwritten message Harry included alongside the sculpture: “The One And Only.”

The penguin sculpture was created by Washington-based artist Georgia Gerber, known for her bronze animal and human figures.

The couple, who got engaged in 2017, previously shared details about their engagement in their Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan and in Harry’s 2023 memoir, Spare.

When Harry proposed to Meghan on Nov. 4, 2017, he asked her, “Spend your life with me? Make me the happiest guy on the planet?” as detailed in his memoir.

The couple’s friend, Lucy Fraser, said in an interview for their Netflix docuseries that Harry and Meghan “were so happy and they were going to keep it quiet because it was going to be announced a few weeks later.”

She added, “We had a little engagement party and everyone was dressed in animal onesies. And Meg and Harry were in matching penguin onesies because penguins mate for life, and they were so sweet and we had so much fun.”

On Tuesday, Meghan also shared previously unseen photos from her wedding day. The drop included pictures of her mother, Doria Ragland, as well as Nanny Maria — who cares for Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis — and Archie’s rumored godmother, Izzy May.
