Prisoners follows two men – neo-noir Inspector Loki, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, and the strictly religious doomsday prepper Keller Dover (Hugh Jackman). When Keller’s daughter Anna and their neighbour’s daughter Joy disappear after a Thanksgiving dinner, Detective Loki tries to find the truth.
Keller also embarks on his own search for truth – but when does justice become revenge, and just how far would a parent be willing to go to protect their child?
In Keller’s case, he will go further than anyone could have expected and, in the process, will almost lose everything.

The cinematography of Prisoners is true Villeneuve style – long establishing shots, eerie silent landscapes and slow zooms add to the sense of tension that slowly builds throughout the two and a half hour run time.
It’s a slow burn, but with some truly shocking scenes that would be more at home in a slasher than a thriller.
Jackman and Gyllenhaal deliver performances of a lifetime – you won’t like either of them, but their chemistry together is undeniable.
Prisoners has an 87% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and reviews say it’s one of the best films they’ve ever seen.
