Two Australian men are wanted for questioning in Vietnam following the murder of Sydney underworld figure Lorenzo Lemalu.

Vietnamese authorities have released images of two men they wish to speak to over the brazen assassination of Coconut Cartel gang leader Lemalu, 24, as he stood outside a restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City.

Local media in Vietnam have named Lang Kenny Trong Minh Do, 36, as one of the men.

An alert issued by Trang Bang Ward Police in the nation’s south suggests the two men left Ho Chi Minh City in a taxi, before getting out in a town near the border of Cambodia.

“The police consider these individuals to be extremely dangerous. Authorities are urgently pursuing them and are urging the public to remain vigilant,” the international news reports say.

There’s no suggestion of wrongdoing by the two men, just that police want to speak to them

The incident was captured in dramatic CCTV footage obtained by The Saturday Telegraph. The vision shows the gunman with his hands in his pockets attempting to look nondescript as he walks up towards the group with Lemalu on a street in Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday night.

As he approaches, he appears to take a sideways glance to ensure he has the right target, before walking a few steps past the group of about five men and a few women.

Then, suddenly, he turns and opens fire in an attack position, with Lemalu and another man shot multiple times, before the gunman then follows his intended target into the restaurant where he presumably fires more bullets.

As his other victim crawls along the footpath towards a mate, the gunman emerges from the restaurant and flees on foot across the street.

Interestingly, to the far left of the video, another man – wearing a hoodie in Ho Chi Minh’s highly humid conditions – can be seen considering running over towards the gunman, before hesitating and then running off with the shooter as he flees.

Vietnamese authorities are understood to now be hunting for two men over the shooting.

Other vision shows the bloody aftermath of the shooting as paramedics desperately attempt to save Lemalu inside the restaurant.

The Telegraph revealed on Friday that Lemalu, a senior member of the Coconut Cartel gang and a former associate of the Alameddine crime family, died in the brazen attack.

It is believed another Coconut Cartel associate was also injured in the shooting.

NSW Police sources said it is unclear exactly what the motive for the assassination was.

One line of inquiry is that it is because of his falling out with the Alameddines, but another is that it was as a result of conflict that has originated while spending time in Asia.

“The big rumour is they ripped off some Albanians and that’s why he was killed,” an Australian underworld figure living overseas said.

Lemalu was a former member of Proper 60, a Merrylands-based Alameddine-linked gang that counted rapper Ali Younes, aka Ay Huncho, as its central figure.

The 24-year-old’s loyalty to Younes and Proper 60 once went as far as tattooing the gang’s name across his stomach.

He is believed to have had a falling out with some Alameddines over the past 18 months and teamed up with another Sydney figure in exile, Anthony Pele, to run the Coconut Cartel.

There is no suggestion of wrongdoing by Younes over this incident.
