Prince Harry made an unexpected appearance at the NBA Finals this weekend, with the Duke of Sussex spotted courtside in San Antonio while Meghan Markle was notably absent.

The duke was among the spectators for game five of the championship series between the San Antonio Spurs and the New York Knicks, watching from premium seats just a few rows back from the court. Harry was joined by US Army veteran and Purple Heart recipient JP Lane and was seated close to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver during the highly anticipated fixture.

The royal’s appearance comes as he spends time in the United States for the Warrior Games, a sporting event for wounded, injured and ill military personnel organised by the US Government.

While Harry was present for the basketball showdown, neither the Duchess of Sussex nor the couple’s two children were seen at the game.

The NBA Finals attracted a host of celebrities, including actress Sydney Sweeney, music executive Scooter Braun, actor Timothée Chalamet and comedian Ben Stiller.

Fans were treated to a dramatic contest, with the New York Knicks securing a 94-90 victory to claim their first NBA championship title since 1973.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have become regular attendees at major sporting events since relocating to California in 2020. Earlier this year, the couple were spotted together at the NBA All-Star Game.

Harry’s latest public appearance came on the same day members of the Royal Family gathered in London for Trooping the Colour, the annual ceremony marking the King’s official birthday.

King Charles joined Queen Camilla and senior members of the Royal Family for the military spectacle, which drew thousands of spectators to central London.

The Princess of Wales attended alongside Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis as crowds lined The Mall to watch the procession from Buckingham Palace to Horse Guards Parade.

While the King celebrated his official birthday in Britain, Prince Harry spent the day thousands of miles away enjoying one of the biggest nights in American sport.

The appearance offered a reminder of the contrasting lives now led by the Sussexes and the working royals, with Harry choosing a courtside seat at the NBA Finals while royal celebrations unfolded in London.
