The British rapper and Netflix star Ghetts has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving following a fatal hit-and-run.
Ghetts, whose real name is Justin Clarke-Samuel, allegedly failed to stop after he knocked down a 20-year-old man in Ilford, north-east London, on October 18.
The 41-year-old appeared at Stratford Magistrates’ Court on Monday, the same day the man died in hospital and the indictment is now expected to change from causing serious injury to causing death by dangerous driving at the next hearing.
Mr Clarke-Samuel was remanded into custody and is due to appear at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Monday, October 27.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash to come forward.
Ghetts is an award-winning rapper and songwriter who has featured on songs alongside Skepta, Stormzy and Ed Sheeran.
In 2021 he won the Best Male Act at the Mobo Awards and received the Mobo Pioneer Award in 2024 for his significant contribution to British black culture.
He has also been nominated for a Mercury Prize.

Ghetts starred in the critically-acclaimed Netflix series Supacell
His 2021 album Conflict of Interest reached number 2 in the UK album charts and his been played on national radio stations including BBC Radio 1, Kiss 100 and BBC Radio1Extra.
In 2024 he performed at Glastonbury having previously sang at the festival in 2022 and 2008 on the BBC Introducing stage.
That same year, he starred in the critically-acclaimed Netflix series Supacell.
He is originally from Woodford Green in east London.
