Parents Find Folded Clue in Work Jacket as Questions Deepen Over Alex Pretti’s Final Phone Call
The parents of Alex Pretti say they are searching for answers after discovering a folded note inside their son’s work jacket, a find that has added a new and deeply emotional layer to an already distressing situation.
The discovery was made while the family was sorting through Alex’s belongings in the days following his death. Tucked into the pocket of the jacket he regularly wore to work was a small, carefully folded piece of paper. According to the family, the note had not been noticed before and appeared deliberately hidden.
Alex’s parents have not disclosed the full contents of the note, saying only that it raised further questions about their son’s final days. They described the moment as overwhelming, with his mother saying the jacket still carried the familiar smell of her son, making the discovery all the more painful.
“It felt like he was trying to leave something behind,” a family friend said. “But we don’t yet know what he meant by it.”
The find comes amid renewed attention on Alex’s last phone call home, which took place shortly before his death. His parents say the call was unusually brief and consisted of just 10 words. The exact wording has not been publicly released, but the family has described it as troubling and out of character.
Normally talkative and close to his parents, Alex would usually linger on the phone, sharing details about work and everyday life. The abrupt nature of the final call has left his family struggling to understand what he may have been experiencing at the time.
Police have confirmed they are aware of both the note and the final phone call and are assessing them as part of their ongoing inquiries. A spokesperson said investigators are treating the information seriously but cautioned against speculation.

“At this stage, we are continuing to gather information and speak with relevant parties,” the spokesperson said. “We understand the public interest in this matter, but it is important not to jump to conclusions.”
Little has been officially released about the circumstances surrounding Alex’s death, with authorities citing privacy concerns and the sensitivity of the investigation. What is known is that Alex had been working regularly and was in contact with his family in the period leading up to his death, giving no obvious indication that anything was wrong.
Friends and colleagues have described him as reliable, kind and dedicated, someone who showed up for others and rarely spoke about his own problems. Several have said they were shocked by the news, adding that nothing in his behaviour suggested he was in distress.
The folded note has become a focal point for the family, who hope it may eventually provide clarity. While they have chosen not to release its contents, they say it appears intentional and personal, rather than a casual scrap of paper.
“It wasn’t just something shoved in a pocket,” his father said. “It was folded carefully. That’s what keeps playing on our minds.”
Supporters of the family have begun sharing messages online, urging anyone who may have had recent contact with Alex to come forward if they believe they have relevant information. Some have also called for greater transparency once investigations are complete, saying families deserve clear answers.
Experts note that personal items left behind can sometimes take on greater meaning in the aftermath of a sudden death, and caution that interpretations can change as more information becomes available. Police have echoed this, stressing that all evidence must be considered in context.
For now, Alex’s parents say their focus is on understanding what happened and honouring their son’s memory. They have described the waiting as agonising, marked by unanswered questions and moments of painful reflection.
“We just want to know what he was trying to tell us,” his mother said. “That’s all.”
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have asked for patience as they continue their work.
