The Earl of Wessex made a surprise appearance at today’s Easter Sunday service alongside Prince Edward. The 18-year-old has makes very few royal appearances, with his life having been largely spent outside of the spotlight.

James, and his sister, Lady Louise Windsor – who did not appear alongside her family today – were last spotted at the walkabout on the Sandringham estate on Christmas Day last year. He is currently studying for his A Levels.

Although James and Edward were in attendance, Duchess Sophie appeared to be absent from today’s service. Buckingham Palace has not yet explained why she did not attend.

Although his mum and sister were missing, the young royal was joined by fellow royals such as the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven.

Princess Anne was also present, as well as her son Peter Phillips, who recently announced the date of his wedding this summer.

Peter’s fiancée Harriet Sperling also joined the family, as well as his daughers, 15-year-old Savannah and 14-year-old Isla.

Harriet’s teenage daughter, Georgina, also made her debut alongside the royals as she was spotted walking alongside Savannah and Isla.

Lady Louise was likely absent due to still being in the teaching term at her university, St Andrews in Scotland.

The 22-year-old is a fourth year student at the prestigious school, where she studies English.

The university is also where Prince William met his now-wife, Princess Catherine in the early 2000s.
