Both of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s children inherited Prince Harry’s red hair

Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet’s red hair had a starring role in Meghan Markle’s latest Instagram post.

On April 5, the Duchess of Sussex, 44, shared a glimpse into her family’s Easter celebrations with a new post on Instagram, and several videos showed off her children’s red tresses. Meghan and Prince Harry share son Prince Archie, 6, and daughter Princess Lilibet, 4, and both children have inherited their dad’s signature red hair.

The first two videos showed the Duchess of Sussex feeding the chickens and collecting eggs at what appeared to be her family’s California home, where their chicken coop is nicknamed Archie’s Chick Inn.

It then rolled to show the first video of the children, where Prince Archie and a rabbit-ear-wearing Princess Lilibet raced to reach an egg during an Easter egg hunt.

The snippet gave the clearest look lately at Archie and Lilibet’s red locks, which differ slightly in shade. Prince Archie’s hair is auburn, while Princess Lilibet’s locks are a lighter ginger like Prince Harry’s.

Amid the growing online buzz, public skepticism is quickly becoming a central part of the story. What began as a few scattered comments has evolved into widespread scrutiny, with many people questioning small visual details and perceived inconsistencies. While some view it as harmless curiosity, others warn that this wave of doubt is being amplified without solid evidence — turning speculation into a much larger and more divisive conversation.

The next two videos followed Princess Lilibet walking barefoot through the backyard of her family’s California home, where she festively dressed for Easter with the bunny ear headband, with her hair worn loose.

The carousel closed with a clip of Prince Archie in the zone with a toy called The Dinomazing Egg Decorator. Archie colored an egg as it spun in the device and the camera’s close zoom showed his short red bangs.

Prince Harry famously has red hair and previously said that his children inherited their red hair from his late mother Princess Diana’s side of the family.

The Duke of Sussex opened up while appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in 2023, when the host asked if he saw his late mother or grandparents in any of his children.

“Definitely my mum. The ginger gene is a strong one!” Prince Harry said then, in a quip that made the studio audience laugh.

“The Spencer gene is very, very strong,” he continued, referring to his mother’s Spencer side of the family. “I actually really, genuinely thought at the beginning of my relationship [with Meghan] that should this go the distance and we have kids that there’s no way the ginger gene will stand up to my wife’s genes, but I was wrong! Go gingers.”

While the late Princess Diana was blonde, all three of her siblings have naturally red hair. Her son Harry joked about his own red hair hue when reflecting on the early days of his relationship with Meghan in the Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan, which debuted in 2022

“I remember my family first meeting her and being incredibly impressed. Some of them didn’t quite know what to do with themselves,” Harry said after they recounted Meghan’s first meeting with his grandmother the Queen. “I think they were surprised. Maybe surprised that a ginger could land such a beautiful woman and such an intelligent woman.”

Prince Harry and Meghan began dating in July 2016, announced their engagement in November 2017 and married in May 2018.

Their first child, son Prince Archie, was born a year later, and they later stepped back from their royal roles in the U.K. in 2020.
