MILWAUKEE – Two people are dead following a shooting on Milwaukee’s north side on Monday night, March 9.

The Milwaukee Police Department said a 31-year-old and a 33-year-old were shot multiple times near Green Tree and Darien around 10:30 p.m.

“I heard (the shots). I was in the house. I heard them and I’m like, oh wow, they sounded so close,” said Chanel Hendrix, a neighbor. “I was shocked, I was shocked.”

The victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

A 27-year-old man was arrested in connection with this incident.

Charges are pending review by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.

Family and friends identified the victims as 31-year-old Maya Tolbert, who was pregnant, and her boyfriend, Giovanni McVicker.

Family members say the couple had three children, two of which they had together. Another baby was on the way.

Those family members tell FOX6 News both Tolbert and McVicker will be remembered as loving parents, kind and genuine. They also noted the person arrested was their neighbor.
