Nearly four years have passed since the chaotic night that claimed the life of Chicago rapper King Von, yet the debates surrounding the deadly shootout between King Von’s crew and Quando Rondo’s crew have never cooled down. From witness accounts, family statements, online rumors, to the newest revelations from Lil Tim—the man once accused of shooting Von—this remains one of the most polarizing and complex cases in modern hip-hop history.
Combining everything from the night of November 6, 2020, through the legal developments of 2024–2025 reveals that the truth behind this tragedy is far more complicated than what the public initially believed.
The Night of the Shooting: A Fight That Turned Fatal
At around 3:20 a.m. on November 6, 2020, outside the Monaco Hookah Lounge in Atlanta, a confrontation unexpectedly erupted between two rap crews. King Von—26 years old at the time and fresh off the release of his album Welcome to O’Block—was reportedly in celebration mode.
Surveillance footage that spread across social media shows Von approaching Quando Rondo and immediately attacking him. Just seconds later, Timothy “Lil Tim” Leaks—part of Rondo’s crew—pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots.
Chaos erupted instantly. Three different groups discharged firearms, including two off-duty police officers working security at the venue. Six people were hit, three fatally, including King Von. The Fulton County Medical Examiner later confirmed Von suffered multiple gunshot wounds, with a shot passing through his right eye identified as the fatal one.
Lil Tim was also shot twice and arrested while still in the hospital. He later recounted that police “didn’t tell him the charges,” though he already knew why he was being shackled to the bed. His lawyer advised him early on that the case could qualify as self-defense, giving him hope of beating the charges.

Rumors, Conflicting Narratives, and Rising Tensions
Immediately after the incident, conflicting narratives flooded social media. Asian Doll—Von’s ex-girlfriend—insisted it was police, not Lil Tim, who fired the fatal shot, claiming officers told her “Tim didn’t kill him, police did.” She even said ballistic evidence didn’t match Tim’s weapon—though to this day, no official documentation supports this claim.
Within Von’s circle, some questioned the behavior of his security team, who allowed him to exit the vehicle and engage in a fight. A more unsettling allegation suggested that Von’s usual bulletproof truck was suddenly swapped for a normal vehicle that night without explanation. Bo, a cousin of Von, hinted that this could have been intentional.
Rumors also circulated that someone paid Lil Tim money in 2020 to take Von out. However, no evidence has surfaced, making these claims purely speculative at best.
The 2023 Turning Point: Lil Tim Walks Free
On August 20, 2023, all charges against Lil Tim were dismissed before even reaching a grand jury. The reason: Georgia’s Stand Your Ground law, which permits deadly force if someone reasonably believes they or another person are in imminent danger.
Given that multiple firearms were discharged—including shots from police officers—it became nearly impossible to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Tim wasn’t acting in defense of Quando Rondo.
After the dismissal, Tim released new music, removed his ankle monitor in a symbolic music video, and began appearing in interviews where he shared more details. He admitted firing four shots, claiming the gun jammed after the third or fourth round. He also said he didn’t even know he was shooting at King Von, only that he was trying to protect his friend Quando.
Tim further stated that he himself was shot by police during the incident.
Conspiracy Theories and the Documentary “Book of Timothy”
In 2024, Lil Tim announced a multi-part documentary titled Book of Timothy, promising “new evidence” and “never-before-heard details.” This triggered immediate backlash.
Despite the dramatic claims, multiple sources clarified that no new footage of the actual shooting is included. Instead, the documentary features extended interviews, behind-the-scenes material, and Tim’s personal accounts.
Asian Doll quickly accused Tim of profiting off Von’s death and continued insisting he wasn’t the shooter. Tim fired back cryptically on X (formerly Twitter): “Must ain’t see the video.”
The Chain Reaction of Retaliation: Lil Durk Caught in a Federal Case
The death of King Von didn’t end the violence—it sparked an extended chain of retaliatory acts.
On October 24, 2024, rapper Lil Durk—Von’s closest friend and mentor—was arrested near Miami International Airport on federal conspiracy-to-commit-murder-for-hire charges. Prosecutors allege he orchestrated a plot to kill Quando Rondo as retaliation for Von’s death.
The alleged hit occurred on August 19, 2022, at an L.A. gas station. Though Quando survived, his cousin, Savaya “Lul Pab” Robinson, was killed. Federal filings claim Durk offered money and lucrative music opportunities to those who assisted in the attempted retaliation.
Five OTF-affiliated associates were also indicted for conspiracy and weapons charges. Durk was denied bond, with the judge citing him as a flight risk. His trial was postponed to October 2025 due to the case’s complexity.
Durk pleaded not guilty and hired high-profile attorney Drew Findling, known for defending major public figures. His legal team argued that prosecutors misinterpreted rap lyrics, reigniting national debate over the criminalization of hip-hop music.
In February 2025, Lul Pab’s mother filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Durk.
Social Media Erupts: Fans Split Into Opposing Camps
Fans of King Von and Quando Rondo are fiercely divided. Many supporters of Von see Lil Tim’s acquittal as a failure of the justice system. Others argue Tim clearly acted in defense of his friend.
Some call for “street justice,” while others emphasize that Von initiated the physical confrontation and Tim acted legally under Georgia law.
Reddit communities such as r/Chiraology and r/KingVon are filled with debates dissecting every detail—from ballistics to body language to alternate-camera angles.
King Von’s Legacy: Brilliant Yet Complicated
Von’s posthumous album Grandson (2023) performed well, proving his fanbase remains huge. Songs like Crazy Story and Took Her to the O continue to influence an entire generation of drill rappers with their vivid storytelling.
However, Von’s legacy is also shadowed by allegations linking him to real-life violence, especially after the controversial documentary King Von: Rap’s First Serial Killer by YouTuber Trap Lore Ross. Though the video was removed and criticized for inaccuracies, it fueled ongoing discussions about the relationship between drill music and real street crime.
Von’s death has since triggered broader conversations about violence, trauma, and systemic issues in inner-city communities. As one Reddit user put it:
“Most people in the hood need therapy and safety, not more guns.”
So Where Does the Truth Really Lie?
After reviewing all interviews, legal records, witness accounts, and the claims from both sides, one conclusion stands out:
The case is far too complex for a single, definitive narrative.
Maybe Tim acted in self-defense.
Maybe police fired the fatal shot.
Maybe there was a setup.
Or maybe it truly was a spontaneous fight that spiraled into tragedy.
Whatever the truth may be, the death of King Von ignited one of the most violent, controversial, and emotionally charged chapters in rap history—leading to more shootings, federal indictments, bitter fan wars, and a deeply divided hip-hop community.
