Moore’s “inappropriate relationship” with his former assistant led to his termination as the head coach at the University of Michigan

Paige Shiver is sharing an emotional new detail about her relationship with ex Sherrone Moore.

The 32-year-old former assistant to the ex-University of Michigan head coach had an “inappropriate relationship” with Moore for years before ultimately reporting him to the university, leading them to terminate him.

Speaking out in a new interview with ABC News’ Linsey Davis, which aired on Good Morning America on Friday, April 24, Shiver shared that during her years-long relationship with Moore, who was a married father, she got pregnant.

However, the pregnancy was complicated by Pompe disease, and Shiver was advised by doctors to terminate the pregnancy.

According to the National Organization for Rare Diseases, Pompe disease is a genetic disorder that can lead to “heart problems in addition to generalized skeletal muscle weakness and a life expectancy of less than 2 years, if untreated.”

Shiver, who was visibly emotional, said during her GMA appearance, “Multiple doctors and experts told me that it wouldn’t be right or healthy for me to keep the baby.”

When asked by Davis if she wanted to keep the baby, Shiver was audibly choked up, replying, “Yeah.”

She also shared that Moore knew about the pregnancy and her decision to terminate.

“He said, ‘You have to do what’s right for your body,’ ” Shiver claimed.

Looking back on her relationship with Moore, Shiver said she thought she was in love at the time.

“Back then, I did, but obviously looking back at things and really reflecting on what happened, what was happening, that’s not love at all,” she said.

Shiver and Moore began a consensual relationship when she was an intern in 2022. She was promoted to be his executive assistant in 2024 when he became the university’s head coach.

“He could fire me in a second,” Shiver said of Moore’s control over her job security.

Shiver ultimately reported Moore to the university, leading to his termination from his coaching job on Dec. 10, 2025.

That same day, Moore was arrested after Shiver alleged that he’d driven to her home and threatened self-harm.

“All of the sudden I hear footsteps and they’re getting closer and louder, so I’m like, ‘Crap.’ So I run to my door to try to lock it,” Shiver said. “He barges in and he’s standing this close to me and he said, ‘You ruined my life, why would you do this to me?’ And I started backing up and he starts following me.”

Shiver said she feared for her life amid the interaction.

“Oh my gosh, yes. He’s 6’4” and he comes in with his hood up, looking down at me saying I ruined his life, crying and he starts coming at me and I tell him to leave,” Shiver said. “He’s not supposed to be here. He’s not listening to me. And then he starts grabbing butter knives.”

Moore was sentenced to probation on April 14. He ultimately pleaded no contest to two misdemeanors and was sentenced to 18 months of probation after the judge said he didn’t believe incarceration was appropriate, though he warned that “all bets are off” if Moore violates the probation terms, PEOPLE previously reported.

He was also fined $1,000.

“I think he should have gotten more punishment for what he did,” Shiver said.

Shiver’s attorneys, Andrew M. Stroth and Steven A. Hart, previously criticized the sentence, saying that it “does not reflect the seriousness of Moore’s unlawful entry and aggressive attack on Ms. Shiver on December 10th,” per a statement shared with PEOPLE.

Moore’s attorney, Ellen Michaels, said in a statement to ABC News, “Sherrone Moore has closed this chapter.”

PEOPLE has reached out to Michaels for comment.
