Max B gave his wife a ring one day after his release from prison.

The rapper and singer, 47, concluded his 16-year prison sentence on Sunday, Nov. 9, and one day later, at a dinner celebrating his release, he gave his wife a “3.5ct F-VVS2 Pear shape center stone ring,” a representative for Max B tells PEOPLE. The moment was shared by photographer Shot by Zakar on Instagram.

The rapper called the ring a “gesture of love and renewal.”

In a statement shared with PEOPLE, Max B’s wife, who has not publicly shared her name, said, “About 10 years ago, I wrote him a letter after reading about his case. Something in me just felt compelled… like my heart knew I had to reach out. It wasn’t for any reason other than wanting to give him a little bit of hope and faith when he felt like no one was there for him.”

The couple officially married on Feb. 14, 2025, while Max B was still incarcerated. In their first public statement since his release, Max B and his wife said: “Through every obstacle, test and every year apart we chose each other. This new chapter is our blessing and our forever.”

In 2009, Max B was sentenced to 75 years in prison after being convicted on nine counts related to a 2007 robbery in Fort Lee, N.J., that turned fatal, according to Rolling Stone.

He later filed a motion for post-conviction relief, which resulted in his conviction being vacated, and accepted a plea deal for aggravated manslaughter in 2016, which reduced his sentence to 20 years.
