Officers say the rapper was one of four people wounded outside a Dallas club.

A rising Dallas rapper was seriously injured early New Year’s Day after being shot outside an after-hours nightclub, an incident that has shaken the North Texas hip-hop community and renewed concerns about violence around nightlife venues.

The artist, known as ZeeTheWizard, was among four people shot shortly before 4 a.m. on New Year’s Day outside of Pinkhouse Dallas, an adult after-hours club near the city’s Medical District, according to the Dallas Observer. Police responding to the scene found multiple victims with gunshot wounds in the parking lot. No arrests have been announced, and investigators have not released details about a suspect or motive.

Family members identified ZeeTheWizard—whose real name is Zec’Quire Cannon Grant Fields—as one of the victims and said he was hospitalized in critical condition, the Dallas Observer reported. Dallas police have confirmed the shooting but have not provided additional updates on his condition.

Fields had been gaining momentum in the North Texas music scene, drawing attention as part of what local outlets have described as a new wave of Dallas rap artists.
