Jiménez died alongside five others in a plane crash in Colombia on Saturday, Jan. 10

Yeison Jiménez, a singer-songwriter and star of música popular, has died. He was 34.

On Saturday, Jan. 10, a plane with the registration N325FA crashed “in the area between Paipa and Duitama,” in Colombia, the Special Administrative Unit of Civil Aeronautics (SAUCA) announced on X. All six people on the flight towards Medellín were killed in the incident.

Jiménez and members of his team were confirmed to have died in the crash after a representative shared a news release on his Instagram.

“With heavy hearts and indescribable grief, Yeison Jiménez’s organization and team deeply regret to announce his passing,” the statement translated from Spanish read. “Today, we not only say goodbye to an artist; we say goodbye to a son, a brother, a friend, a human being full of dreams and courage, who transformed his story into a source of hope for thousands.”

The other victims were identified as Jefferson Osorio, Juan Manuel, Oscar Marín, Weisman Mora, and Captain Fernando Torres. “We send our deepest condolences, our absolute solidarity, and our prayers to their families during this difficult time,” the news release concluded.

The plane, believed to be owned by the Jiménez’s firm, YJ Company SAS, crashed moments after take off at around 4 p.m. local time, U.K. newspaper The Sun reported. Jiménez had been traveling to Medellin near the town of Marinilla to perform that night, according to the outlet.

Jiménez’s photographer, Mora, had shared a clip on his Instagram Stories just moments before the fatal crash. He captured the view from inside the plane in the front passenger seat as the aircraft taxied on the runway.

Footage taken shortly after the crash, obtained by The Sun, shows the plane on fire on the ground. An emergency response member rushes over to the wreckage and attempts to put the fire out with an extinguisher.

Jiménez was one of Colombia’s most popular artists, singing traditional Mexican ranchera music mixed with Colombian roots. In 2024 the singer sold out Bogotá’s Movistar Arena three times and in 2025, Bogotá’s El Campín Stadium — becoming the first Colombian artist to do so, per Billboard.

The Technical Directorate for Accident Investigation is investigating the incident.

Jiménez is survived by his wife and three children.
