Community members express concern over the New Year’s Eve club shooting that injured the rising Dallas rapper, and they now await word on his health.
A New Year’s party turned into tragedy early Thursday morning after a shooting at an after-hours club in Northwest Dallas left five people hospitalized, including well-known Dallas rapper Zeethewizard.
As of Friday afternoon, the performer — born Zec’qurie Cannon Grant Fields, who by family members identified to WFAA as one of the victims — remained in critical condition, according to both his family and the Dallas Police Department.

Sources tell WFAA that he is currently on life support after having been struck multiple times by gunfire.
The night was supposed to be celebratory. Not only was it New Year’s Eve, but it was also the grand opening of Pink House Dallas, a new venue located at the former site of clubs such as Safari Dallas and V Live Dallas.
Instead, local and national music fans alike now find themselves awaiting word on Fields’ health following that party, with many on social media already jumping to the worst conclusion.
A close collaborator of platinum record-selling Dallas rapper BigXThaPlug, Fields is part of the “New Dallas” movement, a growing group of young area rappers who are focused on unity and positivity through music and spurning the mindset that have divided the scene in the past.
Dallas activist Davante Peters, who also performs music under the moniker Brotha Shawt, said he felt Zeethewizard’s sense of unity firsthand when the two worked together on their recently released collaborative song, “Let Me Find Out (Fanned Out)”.
“I know he had a lot more work to do, but he definitely supported me,” Peters said. “He wanted to see me be successful as well, and I really appreciated that.”
Fields’ music seems on the brink of major success, too. His reach had just started to extend beyond North Texas and he was beginning to garner national attention, even reportedly signing a record deal with the label run by the popular rapper Future.
In the summer of 2025, Dallas Observer contributing journalist Bryson “Boom” Paul named Zeethewizard one of the city’s top 20 rappers to watch, calling him “a top prospect in the New Dallas movement.”
Even while prolifically releasing music — Zeethewizard released two albums in the past year — Paul said his Fields just as notably has remained active in his community even as his profile has grown.
“He played football and basketball, and he stayed involved in youth community sports — even now as a recording artist,” Paul said.
Police have not released information about a suspect, and they have not detailed what led up to the shooting beyond a Friday statement in which officials said the incident stemmed from an “altercation.”
The police said their investigation remains ongoing for the time being.
“Nobody deserves this,” Paul said. “Let alone somebody like him that preached positivity throughout his music.”
In a statement shared to Instagram Stories, Pink House Dallas’ management asked for thoughts and prayers for the victims of the shooting that occurred at their venue early Thursday morning, and said they were doing their part in bringing justice to the situation.
Read their statement in part: “Pink House Dallas is fully cooperating with law enforcement and is committed to assisting authorities in every way possible as they work to identify and apprehend the individual responsible.”
