Lindsey Vonn still has a “long, long way to go” as she sits in the hospital, six days after her crash at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
In a video posted on Friday, Feb. 13, Vonn said she wanted to give “another little update” on how she’s doing in the aftermath of her brutal crash during the women’s downhill on Sunday.
The 41-year-old skier first thanked her fans for “sending me flowers, and letters, and sharks,” while showing off a large stuffed animal shark that she was using as a pillow in her hospital bed, as she’s hooked up to various wires with machinery beeping in the background.
“It’s just been so amazing, and really helped me a lot,” Vonn said of the gifts. “It’s been quite a hard few days in the hospital here. I’m finally feeling more like myself, but have a long, long way to go.”
The five-time Olympian, who suffered a complex tibia fracture in the crash, said she expects to have at least two more surgeries.
“Tomorrow, I’ll have another surgery and hopefully that goes well, and then I can potentially leave and go back home, at which point I will need another surgery,” Vonn explained. “Still don’t know exactly what that entails yet until I get some better imaging, but that’s kind of where I am right now.”

Sharing that she’s “very much immobile” at Ca Foncello hospital in Trevizo, Italy, where she was airlifted after her crash in the mountains of Cortina d’Ampezzo, Vonn said all the support is keeping her going.
“I have a lot of friends and family that have been coming to visit and like I said, the letters and the notes and everything, flowers, have just been so incredible,” she said. “And the staff and the team here has just been amazing, so I feel very lucky and fortunate to have so many people around me that have really helped me get through this, so I just want to say thank you.”
Vonn also added an enthusiastic “go Team USA.”
“It’s been so great to watch and really lifted my spirits,” she said. “So good job team, and keep crushing it.”
The heavily-decorated alpine skier has already undergone three surgeries since her crash, she shared in an Instagram post on Wednesday.
“I had my 3rd surgery today and it was successful,” Vonn wrote in the caption. “Success today has a completely different meaning than it did a few days ago.”
She added, “I’m making progress and while it is slow, I know I’ll be ok.”
