More than three years have passed since Takeoff was fatally shot outside a Houston bowling alley. This loss reverberated across the music world. Weeks after the tragedy, Patrick “DJ Pat” Clark was arrested. Prosecutors allege he “unlawfully, intentionally, and knowingly commit[ted] the felony offense of deadly conduct by knowingly discharging a firearm at and in the direction of” Takeoff. A detective described the evidence: “The defendant was captured on video shooting in the direction of the complainant with a gun in one hand, wine bottle in another hand. Video also shows the defendant leave the bottle at the scene.” Additionally, investigators connected Clark to the crime through fingerprints, phone records, and vehicle data.

Clark is set to stand trial this November. According to No Jumper, he recently brought on a new legal team: Kent Schaffer, Anthony Osso, and Dan Cogdell. Schaffer has previously represented J. Prince, while Osso has reportedly been involved in Clark’s defense before. Clark has pleaded not guilty to the 2022 murder charges and remains free on a $1 million bond.

Takeoff’s Legacy Hits the Big Screen in ‘Takeover’

Amid the legal proceedings, fans also have reason to celebrate Takeoff’s cultural imprint. Takeover, featuring both Takeoff and his former Migos bandmate Quavo, is set to premiere on May 8, 2026. The film also stars Billy Zane, Lamonica Garrett, Serayah, Martin Sensmeier, and others.

Takeover explores Atlanta’s car culture through the story of Guy Miller. He is a former street racing legend returning to his roots after his brother’s death. Quavo steps into the role of Miller, adding to his acting résumé. This résumé includes Atlanta, Narcos: Mexico, Savage Salvation, and Cash Out. The film promises a tribute not only to the city’s culture but also to Takeoff’s enduring impact on music and the lives he touched.
