Heartbreaking details have emerged after two women were killed in a horror crash in Sydney’s southwest while on their way to collect a relative’s wedding dress.

Maureen Crosland, 84, was being driven by Lee Casuscelli, 60, through Camden South on Saturday when another car ploughed into their Alfa Romeo.

Maureen Crosland was also killed.

The car was allegedly stolen at a petrol station in Hurstville and driven by Luke Peter Francis, 31.

Police allege Mr Francis punched a 25-year-old and stole his red Toyota sedan about 10.20am on Saturday.

The alleged theft led to a police chase on Kings St in Beverly Hills that continued through the city’s southwest for almost an hour before it was called off.

A police helicopter tracked the allegedly stolen car before it crashed into the Alfa Romeo in Camden South, killing the two occupants inside.

“The (alleged) offending driver has gone up the inside of those vehicles at speed, crossed into the intersection and impacted with another vehicle that had the lawful opportunity to turn right,” Assistant Commissioner Brett McFadden said.

He said footage showed Mr Francis “overtaking vehicles at speed” in the breakdown lanes and crossing onto the wrong side of the road.

“I’ve watched the footage. He was driving in what I could describe as one of the most reckless and dangerous demonstrations of driving I’ve seen in a long time,” Mr McFadden said.

Ms Casuscelli and Ms Crosland were treated by paramedics but both died at the scene.

The pair were on their way to pick up a wedding dress for the upcoming nuptials between Ms Crosland’s granddaughter and Ms Casuscelli’s son, 9News reports.

Ms Crosland’s death was confirmed on Sunday at the St John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Campbelltown.

Assistant priest Richard Healy said the community was shaken by the news.

“When I announced it during Mass this morning, people were visibly moved and shaken,” he said per 9News.

“People were in tears at the tragedy of the whole situation.

“They were on their way with the mother of the groom to pick up wedding dresses, just devastating.”

It’s alleged Mr Francis fled the scene on foot before he was arrested at gunpoint by police on Nepean Ave, Camden.

He was been charged with 11 offences, including two counts each of dangerous driving occasioning death and aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death.

Mr Francis was also charged with driving recklessly, driving dangerously in a police pursuit, failing to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing death, negligent driving occasioning death, driving unlicensed, not stopping at stop line at red light and assault with intent to take/drive motor vehicle.

He appeared in court on Sunday and did not apply for bail.

He will appear in court again on February 26.
