AFL Star Jack Silvagni Breaks Silence on Brother Tom’s Rape Conviction

St Kilda recruit Jack Silvagni has spoken publicly for the first time since his younger brother Tom was sentenced to six years and two months in jail for rape, acknowledging the family’s difficult time while visiting their parents’ home in Melbourne.

On Saturday, December 20, 2025, Jack arrived at the Silvagni family home in Balwyn North, where media were gathered outside. He addressed reporters briefly, stating that the family was “doing it hard” amid the fallout from Tom’s conviction.

“The family [are] doing it hard,” Jack said, according to reports from the scene.

He also noted that a visitor at the home — reportedly Tom’s girlfriend — would not be speaking to media, adding: “She knows you’re here… and she’s not going to say anything to you guys.”

When pressed on whether the visitor’s presence indicated ongoing support for Tom, Jack declined to comment directly: “That’s for you guys to work out.”

He urged journalists to move on, saying: “It’s Saturday arvo, you guys don’t want to be here, we don’t want you here… You guys do what you got to do, but from our perspective if you guys could move on that would be great. We’re just trying to rally together. I get you guys have got a job to do.”

These comments mark Jack’s first public statement since Tom, 23, was found guilty of two counts of rape in December 2025 and sentenced earlier in the week. The crimes occurred in January 2024 at the family home, where Tom impersonated a friend to digitally rape a woman twice.

The Silvagni family, prominent in AFL circles, has faced intense scrutiny. Tom’s father, former Carlton great Stephen Silvagni, and mother Jo previously issued a statement maintaining Tom’s innocence and indicating plans to appeal the verdict.

Jack, who recently moved from Carlton to St Kilda, has not made further comments on the case through official AFL channels.
