A major incident has been declared as a huge fire tears through a west Londonwarehouse ‘containing fireworks’ – with 150 firefighters tackling the blaze.

London Fire Brigade were called to the incident at Middlesex Business Park on Bridge Road in Southall at 8.55am, with crews from Southall, Heston, Ealing and surrounding stations sent to the scene in 25 fire engines.

The inferno erupted in a two-storey building made up of a warehouse and retail space. It is situated across the road from Hortus Cemetery.

Around three-quarters of the structure was alight earlier, but it is now understood the entire building is ‘fully alight, internally and externally’.

LFB suspects fireworks and cylinders were being stored inside the building.

A nearby school and block of flats have been evacuated as a safety precaution, it added.

Videos posted to social media show multiple explosions causing loud bangs inside building as it burns as terrified residents film from their homes.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown and the LFB confirmed there have been no injuries reported so far.

Three of the Brigade turntable ladders have been deployed to scene, allowing crews to fight the fire from height, the LFB said.

Assistant Commissioner Pat Goulbourne, the Brigade’s Incident Commander said: ‘A major incident has been declared as firefighters tackle the fire on Bridge Street, Southall.

‘This decision has been taken due to the suspected presence of fireworks and cylinders being stored within the structure. All firefighters have withdrawn to a safe distance and are now fighting the fire from a greater distance to ensure crew safety.

‘Firefighters are working hard to bring this fire safely under control. The incident involves a mixed retail and warehouse space, with a significant part of the structure currently alight.

‘Due to the complex nature of the site, and the size of the fire, this will be a protracted incident with crews continuing out firefighting operations through the day.

‘We have helped evacuate a nearby school and block of flats, as a safety precaution.

‘The fire is producing a large amount of smoke, with the plume visible across West London. Residents in the immediate area are advised to keep doors and windows closed as crews respond. Traffic in the local area will be heavily impacted, and people should avoid the area if possible.’

It said earlier: ‘We were called at 9am this morning (November 25) to reports of a fire in Bridge Road, Southall.

‘We sent an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer and our Hazardous Area Response Team to the scene.

‘We are still at the scene alongside colleagues from the London Fire Brigade and Metropolitan Police Service. There have been no patients so far.’

LFB has scaled up its operation after originally deploying 70 firefighters, describing it as a ‘protracted incident’, adding crews would be ‘carrying out firefighting operations throughout the day’.

Residents in the local area have been told to keep doors and windows closed due to the large amount of smoke being produced.

Traffic in the area will also be impacted with roads closed and buses being diverted.

LFB received over 50 calls reporting the fire, writing on X: ‘Firefighters are working hard to bring the fire in #Southall under control.

‘Control Officers have taken over 50 calls reporting the fire, with the smoke plume visible across West London.’
