Magda Szubanski wanted to share her thanks with a young fan.
Beloved Aussie actress Magda Szubanski has shared an update with her fans during her battle with cancer.
The comedy star, 64, announced she is battling Mantle Cell Lymphoma in a message on social media in May this year.
Now, she has shared one of the things making her feel a little brighter during a tough period in her treatment.
Lying in a hospital bed, Szubanski shared a video revealing how much she enjoyed seeing a young fan’s book week tribute to Szubanski’s popular character Sharon, from the hit show ‘Kath and Kim’.
“Well, this is a special shout out to little 10-year-old Annabella Willis in Adelaide,” Szubanski said in the clip posted on her Instagram page. “I just wanted to say darling… thank you so much for your impression of Sharon Strzelecki.”
“I’m in here having chemo, and it really cheered me up, and I’m very touched. That was a beautiful thing to do. Thank you, my sweet. Lots of love to you. Bye, now and lots of love to you all.”
In the caption she again thanked Annabella and revealed that while chemotherapy is “smackin’ me around right now”, the girl’s “stellar Book Week homage to Sharon” cheered her up.
In May, Szubanski said she had been diagnosed with the “rare and fast-moving blood cancer”.
“I won’t sugar-coat it: it’s rough. But I’m hopeful. I’m being lovingly cared for by friends and family, my medical team is brilliant, and I’ve never felt more held by the people around me.”
Szubanski was born in Liverpool and emigrated to Australia as a child. She’s also known for her roles in Fast Forward, a television sketch comedy in the early 90s, and as a passionate LGBT rights advocate.
Last month, she was inducted into the Logies Hall of Fame, receiving Australia’s top TV honour.
