Princess Eugenie’s pregnancy announcement may have seemed like a straightforward piece of happy royal news, but according to one expert, the way it was delivered speaks volumes about her standing within the Firm.

The announcement was shared via Buckingham Palace, rather than through a more personal or private channel – a detail that royal commentator Afua Acheampong-Hagan believes is highly significant.

“I think it is interesting that, although there was a post on social media as well, that the official announcement came from Buckingham Palace,” she explains. “I think this does mean she is clearly still in favour with the royal family.”

Far from being a routine update, Afua suggests the move signals something more deliberate and protective.

“I think it also gives her a bit of protection at this time,” she says. “A delicate time, early pregnancy, but also that kind of umbrella gathering in of the royal family announcing signifies, ‘She’s still under our wing, she’s under our protection, she’s taken care of’.”

In other words, the Palace stepping in to make the announcement sends a subtle but firm message internally and publicly about Eugenie’s place within the monarchy amid a wave of scandal surrounding her parents Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson.

“It’s kind of a bit of a ‘Back off, we’re protecting this girl, our granddaughter, our niece, at this delicate time, and that’s why we’re announcing’,” Afua adds.

The wording of the statement itself also raised eyebrows, particularly its closing line referencing King Charles III. “I also think it’s significant that they wrote at the end that the King is delighted,” Afua notes. “Again, it’s that reiteration that she’s been protected – that she’s beloved by the royal family, that she’s been taken under the wing of the King.”

For royal watchers, these carefully chosen details point to a coordinated effort to reinforce Eugenie’s position within the family and to project unity at a time when the monarchy remains under intense public scrutiny. “I think all these things are quite significant,” Afua concludes. “It was deliberately done in that way.”

Andrew and Fergie have kept under the radar since the latest Epstein files revealed email exchanges between the pair and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Its thought Andrew is hiding away on the Sandringham Estate after being forced out of his Royal Lodge home in Windsor, while Fergie is said to be “couch surfing” following the eviction.

Buckingham Palace announced Eugenie’s pregnancy on Saturday, alongside a statement reading: ” Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are very pleased to announce that they are expecting their third child together, due this summer.

“August (aged five) and Ernest (aged two) are also very excited to have another sibling join the family. His Majesty The King has been informed and is delighted with the news.”
