Entertainment reporter Peter Ford has lashed out at the state of Melbourne’s city centre, a month after quitting his hometown in disgust.
Ford, who regularly appears on Channel 7, shared a video on X on Monday, which showed damage and graffiti to a public toilet located outside the city’s main railway station.
‘Back in Melbourne for 48 hours. So much of the CBD is just putrid,’ Ford wrote in the social media post.
‘This is a public toilet on footpath outside Flinders Street Station. It’s strewn with filth and graffiti. I dare not look inside.’
Followers of the media personality were quick to share their opinions on Ford’s video.
‘Public toilets have looked like this for decades,’ argued one person.

Ford replied: ‘Yes, without getting gross public toilets can get messy.
‘But this is about the OUTSIDE, only 100 metres from the iconic clocks meeting point. If you think that’s okay, I can only imagine the squalor you live in,’ he added.
Many agreed with Ford, with one fan saying: ‘Not surprised… Melbourne is dirty compared to other cities… Rats just taking over the streets.’
‘This is largely representative of much of Melbourne and suburbia. Like seeing an old friend die slowly,’ someone else wrote.
Ford replied: ‘It feels like people have become numb to it. Sad.’
‘Our once-beautiful city is unrecognisable right now,’ another person commented in the X thread.
One more said: ‘Leniency against cracking down on youth delinquency leads to this.’
They continued: ‘Politicians and courts are complicit in this. Too many are being let off because they are minors.

Ford pointed out at the filthy toilet was right outside Flinders Street Station (pictured)
‘Send repeat offenders to jail. No exceptions. Reclaim our cities.’
Someone else chimed in: ‘Melbourne is a Third world Country. No train to the city, junkies and bogans everywhere!
‘At least my tax pays for your government staff who do nothing but the least.’
Ford has relocated from Melbourne, where he grew up, to the Gold Coast as he said life in the Victorian capital had become intolerable, chiefly due to crime.
The crime problem in Victoria was borne out by statistics on car thefts.
1,271 Holden Commodores were stolen in 2025, along with 846 Toyota Land Cruisers.
More than 670 Toyota Corollas, 592 Toyota Hiluxes and 467 Toyota Rav4s were stolen across Victoria in 2025.
Crime is also on the rise at entertainment venues, with news that bar and nightclub patrons could be monitored by police on a 24/7 live feed under a plan to crack down on a series of firebombings.
Melbourne’s nightclubs, bars, adult-entertainment venues and their owners have been rocked by 37 firebombings, home invasions, kidnappings and shootings since April 9, with at least 42 arrests and 200 charges laid.
