Police are investigating the death of a 31-year-old woman in New South Wales, with a crime scene established at a home in Port Macquarie, on the state’s Mid North Coast.

Paramedics were called to the Gore Street property at about 12 pm yesterday and transported the injured woman to Port Macquarie Base Hospital, where she died at about 4pm.

Neighbour Zac Danvey said he had just returned home when he saw the woman being treated by emergency services.

“Within five minutes, we heard all the sirens, came out the front and here is [someone] being carried down the stairs on a stretcher. After that, police were set up for the day,” he said.

“Pretty sad, especially when we found out … she’s a nice lady … it’s unexpected.

“A bit scary, especially to not know what happened.”

Police said they are treating the woman’s death as suspicious, with a post-mortem examination to confirm how she died.

Forensic investigators are on scene with local and homicide detectives investigating under Strike Force Hazen.
