Viewers can get an inside look at Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s life from a BBC documentary called The Elon Musk Show.

The first episode of the series, which aired in October 2022, features an interview with Elon Musk’s first wife, Justine Musk.

In the interview, she reveals a surprising moment when she learned about Elon’s decision to file for divorce, but it didn’t come from him.

Justine recalls: ‘We were seeing a marital therapist and I think he just got tired of the stress and uncertainty of it.

‘The next day, I went into my therapist’s office and he had left a message for her to tell me that he was filing for divorce.

‘That was how I found out.’

Elon’s ex-wife described it as ‘one of the more memorable moments’ of her life.

Justine was born Jennifer Wilson in 1972 in Peterborough, Ontario, and met Elon when she was 18 at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.

Despite long distances involving a year of teaching in Japan, they never lost touch. After she returned from Canada, she rekindled her relationship with Elon Musk, leading to their marriage in January 2000.

In 2002, they faced challenges with grief involving the loss of their first child Nevada to sudden infant death syndrome.

They went on to have a set of twins and triplets, making the SpaceX founder a father of five.

Justine, now a fantasy author, described the difficulties within their marriage including Elon’s demanding nature and their intense arguments.

Elon Musk’s mother, Maye Musk, also weighed in, commenting that Elon’s work-focused mindset made relationships tough.

‘When you date or marry Elon, you don’t see him much. It is hard to have a relationship in his case,’ she explained.

Despite the couple’s luxurious lifestyle, Justine felt a growing sense of emptiness, describing her feelings as a ‘trophy wife.’ His build-up to wealth and fame caused a divide in the relationship.

‘I met him when he didn’t have much at all,’ as wrote in Walter Isaacson’s biography. ‘The accumulation of wealth and fame changed the dynamic.

‘I didn’t want to be a sideline player in the multimillion-dollar spectacle of my husband’s life.

‘I wanted equality. I wanted partnership. I wanted to love and be loved, the way we had before he made all his millions.’

The documentary was a three part series on the BBC which aired in 2022.
