Comedy legend Brendan O’Carroll has made it crystal clear — Agnes Brown isn’t ready to retire just yet! 😂 After more than a decade of laughs, chaos, and heartwarming family drama, the Mrs. Brown’s Boys creator and star has vowed to keep the hit sitcom alive “for as long as the BBC wants it.”
The 69-year-old Irish comedian, known for his razor-sharp wit and his iconic portrayal of the fiery, foul-mouthed Dublin matriarch, says there’s still plenty of life (and laughter) left in Agnes. “As long as they want it, I’ll keep making it,” O’Carroll said with a grin. “I’ll keep wearing the apron till they drag me off set!”
It’s the kind of statement fans have been hoping for — especially after months of speculation about the show’s future. With Mrs. Brown’s Boys often sparking debate between critics and loyal fans, many wondered whether the curtain might soon close on one of the BBC’s most talked-about comedies.

But Brendan isn’t backing down. “We still love doing it,” he explained. “It’s a family thing — not just for us making it, but for everyone watching. It brings people together. That’s what comedy is meant to do.”
And that family feeling isn’t just on screen. The show has famously become a family affair, with O’Carroll’s wife, sister, daughter, and son-in-law all taking part. The chemistry, both real and comedic, is what keeps fans coming back year after year — not to mention the ad-libs, the bloopers, and those perfectly timed moments when Brendan himself can’t help but burst into laughter mid-scene.
Since its debut in 2011, Mrs. Brown’s Boys has become a cultural phenomenon — winning BAFTAs, pulling in millions of viewers, and even spawning a live stage show and a movie. Its mix of old-school humor, cheeky charm, and heartfelt moments has made it one of the BBC’s most enduring hits, even as comedy trends evolve.
Of course, not everyone has always been a fan — the show’s slapstick style and unpredictable gags have sparked plenty of debate online. But as Brendan often says, “If people are still talking about it after all these years, that means it’s still alive.”
For him, it’s simple: laughter is timeless. “People need to laugh — especially now,” he added. “If Agnes can make someone’s bad day a bit better, then that’s reason enough to keep going.”
So while other sitcoms may fade away, it looks like Mrs. Brown’s Boys will keep delivering its unique brand of mischief, mayhem, and Irish heart for years to come.
🍀 One thing’s certain: Brendan O’Carroll isn’t done making the world laugh — and neither is Agnes Brown. The apron stays on, the jokes keep coming, and the laughter continues.
