As the Kennedy family mourns the death of 35-year-old Tatiana Schlossberg, her mom Caroline Kennedy is reportedly drawing strength from her late mother Jackie Onassis Kennedy.
A source told People that Caroline is focused on keeping her daughter’s “memory alive” for Tatiana’s son Jack and daughter.
Tatiana passed away on December 30 following a battle with acute myeloid leukemia.

As Caroline Kennedy mourns the death of her 35-year-old daughter Tatiana, who passed away from terminal cancer on December 30, she’s reportedly taking pointers from her late mom Jackie Onassis Kennedy. Just hours after the tragic news broke, a family friend told People that Caroline is relying on the former first lady’s “playbook” following her dad JFK’s assassination to keep Tatiana’s “memory alive” for her kids and the public.

Schlossberg revealed that she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia just weeks before her death, penning a heartbreaking New Yorker essay about the diagnosis while revealing she had been given one year to live. As the Kennedy family, including her older sister Rose and younger brother Jack, mourns the environmental journalist’s passing, the family’s matriarch Caroline is drawing from the tragedies of her own childhood—as well as the strength of her mom Jackie—to make sure her grandkids remember their mom.

“[Caroline] is going to end up having to do the same thing her mother did with her and [brother John F. Kennedy Jr.], along with Tatiana’s husband, in raising those kids,” a family friend told People, referencing how Jackie Kennedy—who suddenly became a single parent after her husband, former president John F. Kennedy, was shot—shouldered the burden of keeping his legacy going strong for future generations.

“She’s going to have to try to preserve her memory and make sure they know about her and make sure they remember her.” Tatiana is survived by her 3-year-old son Jack and a baby daughter Rose, whom she shared with her husband George Moran.

“It’s tragic, and she has a playbook,” the source added. “What I know of Caroline is that she will carry Tatiana’s memory for the rest of her life. She will make sure that Tatiana is remembered, and that’s a gift, to have a family like that.”
