A woman who allegedly smashed a plate into a French waitress’s face has been identified as Melbourne woman Tracy Myers.

Myers, 52, was arrested at Dandenong Railway Station at about 10.50am on Saturday and later charged with recklessly causing injury.

She appeared at Melbourne Magistrate’s Court on Sunday and was granted bail.

Police will allege Myers shoved a plate into the face of backpacker Anais Poupon, 19, at La Vallee in Essendon, north-west Melbourne, about 1pm on Anzac Day, April 25.

CCTV shows Ms Poupon walking around a corner carrying plates when a woman walking the other way narrowly avoids colliding with her.

The woman then appears to knock a plate into the waitress’s face before slapping the remaining plates to the ground.

The young backpacker required dental work after the incident.

‘She told me, “It’s your fault”. I’m very upset. I did nothing,’ Ms Poupon said.

La Vallee co-owner Josh Rabie previously told the Daily Mail he was shocked by the behaviour.

‘It was pretty sickening. When the waitress came in, I thought it might have just been a collision but then I checked the CCTV footage,’ he said on April 29.

‘It’s something you wouldn’t expect, and something you wouldn’t want to happen – there was no reason.

‘It is the first time ever this has happened, the first time for me in this industry, eight years. It was pretty crazy.

‘You see it every now and then on social media, we hear of it quite often, but I don’t think I have heard anything this extreme.’

The Essendon community have rallied around the cafe after CCTV of the incident went viral on social media.

‘We are beyond shocked,’ La Vallee wrote alongside the footage.

‘We love being part of the community in Essendon and we hope our followers can share, tag and suggest this to local friends so we can get some justice.’

Thousands of Aussies viewed and shared the short video.

‘Hope your staff member is okay,’ one wrote.

Myers will appear at Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court on August 17.

The Daily Mail has contacted Myers for comment.
