A man has been found dead inside a home with no obvious cause of death and a suspect potentially on the run.

Emergency services were called to a property on Nauva St in Strathpine, about 40 minutes north of Brisbane, shortly before 1am on Saturday, where a 36-year-old man was discovered unresponsive.

“QAS was called in relation to the deceased person requiring medical assistance at that time and police subsequently attended and located that he was in fact deceased,” Detective Inspector Phil Hurst said.

Police have declared the home a crime scene and are treating the death as suspicious, but say the circumstances surrounding the death remain unclear.

“We don’t have an understanding about what caused this death, and we are currently making those investigations to try and establish what has occurred and what led to this death,” Hurst said.

There were no obvious injuries to explain how the man died.

“There were some minor injuries… but there was no injury that would overtly cause this person to die,” he said.

“(The minor injuries), they weren’t significant in any term but we don’t have an explanation in relation to exactly how they occurred either.”

There is no indication a weapon was used and no evidence to suggest links to organised crime.

The man was understood to be a short-term resident at the home and known to two other occupants, who are assisting police with their inquiries.

“There were two witnesses at the address, and they are providing witness versions to help us understand what’s going on and we are relying on medical evidence and autopsies to give us a greater understanding to find out what has caused this person’s death,” Hurst said.

The property is expected to remain under guard as forensic officers conduct an extensive examination of the home.

“They’re actually making examinations of the entire residence… and we’ll probably hold that premises for a day or two,” Hurst said.

Police have not ruled out the involvement of other people and are appealing for anyone with information, including dashcam footage, to come forward.
