Emotions ran high during Sunday night’s episode of Married At First Sight, as same-sex couple Chris Robinson and Sam Stanton called time on their relationship.

The pair appeared at the show’s final Commitment Ceremony and made the sad admission that while they wanted to stay friends, they could not continue their relationship.

‘I really tried to turn this around, I took on all your guys’ feedback. I just feel like I have shut down now,’ a frustrated Chris, 38, admitted, revealing the extra week they were given to repair their relationship did not help.

Meanwhile, a fed-up Sam, 34, said he was done with Chris’ performative actions, admitting he felt he wasn’t seeing much of his ‘real’ persona.

‘I just felt like he was saving face… Like, “I need to do these things to show I am putting in effort”. I feel like there was never any effort of, “I need to grow for us. I need to grow to be a better partner for you”,’ Sam vented.

‘I feel like Chris never fully forgave me for calling him out on his behaviours. From then on, it was the point of no return.’

Chris then made the bombshell admission that he had not enjoyed the pair being intimate together, complaining that the ‘quality of the experience’ was ‘just not there’.

The groom said that had not been fully honest with his TV husband about the bedroom confession because he didn’t want to ‘hurt his feelings’.

Sam was left reeling over the admission, but accepted that their journey was over.

‘I came here to find love, it’s really disappointing it all ended up like this,’ a heartbroken Sam added.

Chris then said that while he wanted to stay ‘really good friends’ with Sam, their time on the dating experiment was over, with both of them voting to leave the experiment.

‘I’ve obviously learned a lot about myself, I hope Sam has too. But my time has unfortunately run out,’ Chris said, with Sam adding that, ‘It’s time to pack up and leave.’

Fortunately, the pair appeared to be ending things on reasonably good terms, as they hugged each other and smiled as they made their exit.

Tension had been brewing in the couple’s relationship for some time and last week Chris revealed he was fed up with his husband’s behaviour.

The pair were appearing at a Commitment Ceremony when Chris made the surprising admission that he had been feuding with his partner Sam.

‘The experts asked me a question last week, “Are you starting to envision a life outside the experiment?” I thought it was admirable I was thinking about it. But Sam was upset that I didn’t consult him before answering the question,’ Chris admitted.

‘He said to me, prior to the dinner party, “Your apologies weren’t genuine enough. I’m going to bring it up with the group.” He could have facilitated that in the apartment, in private. I feel like I have been dragged through the coals.’

However, Sam was having none of it and said the reason he publicly aired his grievances was so that they could receive ‘feedback’ from their co-stars.

Last month, the grooms broke their silence following their wedding episode.

Speaking to Daily Mail, the couple opened up about the baby bombshell, explosive dinner party drama and even the X-rated casting question producers asked before they were matched.

The intruder couple instantly stood out as sparks flew at the altar, but behind the smiles was a major secret Chris had yet to reveal.

The gym owner and farmer is expecting one child via surrogate and another as a donor father to a lesbian friend, but chose not to tell Sam on their wedding night.

‘Obviously, it is pretty big news,’ Chris explained. ‘But we had just met. He was a stranger. In the real world, when do you tell someone? First, second, third date?’

He admitted he deliberately ‘hit pause’ after Sam revealed children were not on his radar in the immediate future.

Married At First Sight continues Monday at 7.30pm on Channel Nine and 9Now.
