FOUR WERE RUSHED TO HOSPITAL—BUT ONE LITTLE GIRL NEVER CAME HOME… 9-YEAR-OLD DI-ES IN ARBROATH TRAGEDY AS MAN IS ARRESTED AND POLICE LAUNCH URGENT INVESTIGATION

A nine-year-old girl has died and three others have been rushed to hospital after an industrial estate incident in Scotland.

The child was found seriously injured at Elliot Industrial Estate on Arbroath in the early hours of Sunday and was rushed to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee where she sadly died, the Daily Record reports.

The Scottish Ambulance Service has now confirmed the girl was taken to hospital alongside three others.

They are understood to be her family members who have all since been discharged.

The 35-year-old man arrested following the incident is understood to have been taken to hospital separately and later discharged.

A spokesperson said: “We received a call at 23:53 on Sunday 2 August to attend an incident at Elliot Industrial Estate, Arbroath. We dispatched three ambulances and a paramedic response unit (PRU) to the scene. We transported four patients to Ninewells Hospital.”

Police Scotland are treating the girl’s death as suspicious and have arrested a 35-year-old white British man. They confirmed the girl and the man were known to each other and officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with her death. The girl’s family, from West Yorkshire, had been camping in the area.

The family had been seen by locals camping on the roadside by Halliburton’s manufacturing facility in the hours before the girl was seriously injured.

Floral tributes have since been left at the scene, where a large police cordon remains in place covering a grassy area, pavement and nearby road.

Residents described the incident as “tragic”, with many saying the close-knit community had been left in shock.

Local resident Bill Smith told reporters: “It’s unbelievable. It’s all everyone is talking about today as it’s incredibly sad. Nobody seems to know what has happened. But it’s tragic that a girl so young has lost her life here.

“There’s a path from the houses that goes through the industrial estate down to the shop. It’s a busy area through the day.”

Councillor Lois Speed, who represents the Arbroath East and Lunan ward, said: “The community is in shock at what has happened. My thoughts are with everyone that has been impacted.”

Detective Superintendent Nicky McGovern previously said: “Around 12.02am on Monday, 3 August, 2026, officers were called to Elliot Industrial Estate in Arbroath after a nine-year-old girl was found with serious injuries.

“She was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee where she later died. A 35-year-old man has been arrested in connection with her death, which is being treated as suspicious. Her family are being supported by specialist officers as inquiries continue.”

Detective Inspector Mike Ness, of the Major Investigation Team, added: “Our thoughts remain with those affected by these events.

“Members of the public will see an increased police presence and activity in the area as enquiries continue. This is intended to reassure the public and anyone who may have information should approach these officers or contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0008 of Monday, 3 August 2026.”
