Davina McCall has faced a further blow after the second dating she fronts was axed due to poor ratings.

The presenter, 58, returned to TV screens earlier this year as the host of BBC dating show Stranded on Honeymoon Island – which followed a group of singletons who go speed dating, and after five minutes have to pick their favourite.

The BBC One rival for ITV juggernaut Love Island pulled in just 848,000 viewers on its debut show, despite its huge £5million budget.

And by the third episodes it was managing to pull in just 517,000 viewers – many of whom compared it to Love Island and Married At First Sight.

Now, the BBC has confirmed there are ‘no current plans for a further series’, after just one instalment of the show.

It comes less than a year after My Mum, Your Dad – an ITV dating show which focused on parents’ second chance at love – was cancelled after two series.

Of Stranded on Honeymoon Island’s cancellation, a BBC spokesperson told the Daily Mail on Tuesday: ‘Stranded on Honeymoon Island was a compelling reality dating format and whilst there are no current plans for a further series.

‘We are grateful to Davina McCall for being our magnificent matchmaking host, the Honeymooners for taking part and to CPL for bringing the series to screen.’

Back in September there were murmurings casting doubt over the show’s future due to plunging ratings.

The brand new dating show eventually dropped to an average of 517,000 viewers on its third outing on Friday.

It was outshined by Jeremy Clarkson‘s Celebrity Who Wants to be a Millionaire over on ITV which aired at the same time and grabbed 1.4million viewers.

‘These are abysmal viewing figures by anyone’s standards, but the fact they are for a show in a prime time slot on BBC One is beyond belief,’ a source told The Sun.

‘It’s proof you have to pick the right format for the right channel.

‘Trying to create something which has a flavour of Love Island, then serving it up to a traditionally mature audience, was a terrible idea.’

The telly source added there were notably huge costs involved including ‘sending over dozens of contestants and crew to an island in the Philippines’ in a 13,000-mile round trip.

The Daily Mail contacted BBC representatives for a comment at the time.

It was Davina’s second failed ‘finding love‘ endeavour after My Mum, Your Dad was cancelled back in January after two successful series.

The dating show hit our screens in September 2023 and then a second season was released the following year.

My Mum, Your Dad sees a group of single parents try and find love again – all while their children are secretly watching them.

However compared to Stranded on Honeymood Island, My Mum, Your Dad became a huge hit with fans and its cancellation was for a very different reason.

A TV insider told The Sun at the time: ‘Strangely there were lots of stunning women in the 45 to 65 bracket who wanted to take part, but a sad dearth of men who fitted the bill.

‘This was a problem they encountered in 2024 when they tried to make the second series and just about managed to get enough candidates together.

‘But when it came to the third outing they realised it was just going to be too difficult, and decided taking a break might be the best option.’

An ITV spokesperson added: ‘My Mum Your Dad achieved a fantastic audience response across its two series, and the show’s boxsets continue to deliver a strong performance on ITVX.

‘There are currently no plans for a new series in 2025 owing to other priorities in our schedule, but we may revisit the show at some point beyond that.’

The publication reported that this decision will be ‘at least until next year’.

Both series have starred single parents aged between 43 and 58 who are looking for love again.

But little do the parents know that they are being watched by their kids in a secret bunker room, very close to the retreat, which is filmed at Viola House in Stedham, West Sussex.
