Netflix has added a guilty pleasure rom-com from the early 2000s that has shot up the streaming service’s top 10 film chart.

Starring a Hollywood queen of the genre and a star who will be very familiar to Yellowstone fans, it has shot to the number six spot on the platform.

If you’re in the mood to be swept off your feet by a charming on-screen romance, Netflix has you covered with the 2002 classic Sweet Home Alabama, starring Reese Witherspoon.

The Legally Blonde icon stars as Melanie Carmichael, a New York fashion designer who keeps her upbringing in rural Alabama a closely guarded secret.

Packed with Southern charm and impeccable chemistry between Witherspoon and Lucas, it’s no surprise that Sweet Home Alabama has become a hit with streamers almost 25 years after its initial release, despite its disappointing 38 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes.

One IMDb user admitted in a 10/10 review: “I can’t seem to stop watching this film….”

And another raved: “Fantastic, had me hooked from the start. I’m a sucker for good ‘chick flicks’ and this one tops my list.”

They concluded with a bold declaration: “Even if this isn’t your kind of film I challenge you to watch it and not feel good, practically impossible.”

Someone else gushed: “Very good old fashion fun. I was very surprised by this film. I thought that this would be just a silly chick hick flick but I was wrong.

“It’s an intelligent and touching film about faith and home that just pulled at the right heart strings. Reese Witherspoon is wonderful as well as the rest of the cast, and it has just the right sense of hope and fun to bring you out of a bad mood. I can’t recommend it enough.”

Accolades continued on Letterboxd, where Sweet Home Alabama has become a popular guilty pleasure.

One fan summed up the film’s appeal: “A near perfect work of RomCom art. Hits all the tropes, manages all my expectations, is funny as hell and sweet without getting gross.”

“Reese Witherspoon and Josh Lucas are kinda perfect together,” someone else said.

“This movie got me hook, line and sinker. Such a great little romcom that’s so of its time. Gotta love Candice Bergen playing Candice Bergen too.”

And a final fan admitted: “I’ve spent 15 years trying to decide if I would have picked Jake or Andrew at the end… This masterpiece haunts me.”
