Meghan Markle pinpointed what would make her “the proudest mom” to Princess Lilibet in a surprise interview with the teen founder of Altadena Girls, a relief group formed to uplift young people affected by the Eaton Canyon Fire earlier this year.

On Oct. 28, the Duchess of Sussex, 44, made the revelation in a piece published by Town & Country, where Meghan interviewed Altadena Girls founder Avery Colvert and her mother, Lauren Sandidge.

The Duchess of Sussex quietly visited Altadena Girls in January, bringing supplies and spending time with families receiving support there, and the Archewell Foundation she shares with Prince Harry also contributed.

Colvert, a 15-year-old from Pasadena, created the group to restore normalcy for teen girls affected by the devastating California wildfire, gathering beauty products, clothes and other personal supplies in a call that went viral.

Altadena Girls has since distributed over one million items and opened a permanent community center in Pasadena on Oct. 11, a.k.a. International Day of the Girl, and Meghan praised Colvert’s hustle.

“You never thought your work would grow to be this big. And even if it hadn’t, it still would have been meaningful and made an impact. My goodness, if our daughter turns out to be anything like you, I’ll be the proudest mom,” the Duchess of Sussex said in the interview for Town & Country’s 2025 Philanthropy Issue.

“How can people continue to help you?” she asked.

“I’m really excited for what’s to come. When you’re a teenager, everything feels like the biggest thing in the world. Even if it’s not going to matter in 10 years, it really matters to you now. I always forget how much time I have, and this is only the beginning,” Culvert said.

Meghan and Prince Harry, 41, are parents to Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4, and Meghan celebrated Lilibet in a post of her own on International Day of the Girl.

“To all the girls — this world is yours. Do everything you can to protect your rights, use your voice, support each other. We will do the same for you. It’s your right and our responsibility. Go get ‘em girl!,” she wrote. “Happy International Day of the Girl”

The two-part carousel opened with a clip of Lilibet running in a field (the red hair that she inherited from dad Harry flowing behind!) and rolled to a photo of Meghan and Lilibet holding hands, where the duchess gave her daughter a look of love.

The Duchess of Sussex has long been a champion for women and girls, dedicating her platform to this advocacy years before she met Prince Harry.
