A man has been injured and a suburb went into lockdown when a tyre shop erupted in flames.

Emergency services rushed to Brisbane Tyres Mags on Queen St in Kingston, in the city’s south, about 1.1opm following reports of a structure fire.

Fire crews arrived at the scene to find a tyre shop ablaze with about 20 cars inside the building.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) spokesman said six firefighters went inside the burning building with breathing apparatuses to ensure no one was inside.

Seven firetrucks and two aerial appliances with ladders battled the blaze for two hours before the fire was brought under control.

Residents were urged to stay away as police declared an emergency situation and set up an exclusion zone while firefighters battled the enormous blaze.

The Queensland Ambulance Service rushed one man with burns to his hands and legs to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a stable condition.

A police spokesman said fire investigators were still on the scene to determine the cause of the blaze.
