King Charles was previously left wiping away the tears following a comment his son Prince William made about the future.
William inherited his father’s estate, the Duchy of Cornwall, after Queen Elizabeth II’s death in 2022. Charles previously ran the estate for more than 50 years when he was Prince of Wales.

Prince William’s comment that left King Charles in tears
In 2019, ITV aired a documentary Prince Charles: Inside the Duchy of Cornwall, giving fans a look into Charles’ life as both a royal and proud father.
On the programme, William spoke to Mervyn Keeling, a second-generation Cornwall tenant.
Talking about the importance of family in the process of succession, William said: “I think it’s important, Mervyn, about the family angle. I really do.”
Discussing his own future, William added: “I’ve started to think about how I will inherit the Duchy one day and what I do.”

‘It reduced me to tears’
After hearing William’s conversation, Charles was overcome with emotion by his son’s comments. He said in the documentary: “When I saw it, I couldn’t believe it.
“I was deeply touched and moved by what he said. Frankly, it reduced me tears.”
Charles continued: “It did, really, because I suddenly thought, well, just hearing that from him has made the last 50 years worthwhile.”
What is the Duchy of Cornwall?
The Duchy of Cornwall is a royal estate spanning 130,000 acres across 23 counties in England and Wales. It is valued at over £1 billion. It was originally established in 1337 by King Edward III to financially support the heir to the throne.
Since assuming the position, Prince William has been praised by royal sources for “fully immersing himself” in the estate’s management and mission.
I was deeply touched and moved by what he said. Frankly, it reduced me tears.
Unlike salaried roles, members of the working royal family do not receive traditional incomes. Instead, William’s expenses are funded by the Duchy.
The income supports a wide range of costs. These include the family’s household needs, staff, travel, charitable commitments, and the Prince and Princess of Wales’s royal duties.
It is understood that William pays income tax on the amount he receives, after accounting for official and domestic expenses. However, the exact figures remain confidential.
