Tearful Tributes Pour In for Nurhayati Pamungkas, the Mother Who Lost Her Life Just Minutes Before She Was Meant to Be Reunited with Her Children
A mother-of-two has died after she was struck by a car while crossing a road in southwest Sydney.
Nurhayati Pamungkas, 43, was on her way to pick up her two young children from school when she and another pedestrian were hit in Lakemba last Tuesday.
CCTV footage obtained by 7NEWS shows a white Toyota Tarago striking the pair before crashing into two cars on the opposite side of The Boulevarde, sending the pedestrians flying.
Pamungkas was treated at the scene before being rushed to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition.
She was placed in an induced coma in intensive care, where she remained for several days before dying about 8pm on Monday, NSW Police said.
Dick’s Hotel in Balmain, which launched a GoFundMe to support the family, confirmed the news in a social media post.
“We are heartbroken to share that Nurhayati has sadly passed away,” the pub said.
“Agung, our head chef, and their two children were by her side, but her injuries were just too severe.
“Please keep Agung and his family in your thoughts as they begin to navigate life without their beautiful wife and mum.”
The hotel’s owner Elia Economou previously said Pamungkas had been doing “what most parents do every day” before her life was turned upside down.
“In a matter of seconds, the life she and her husband Agung had worked so hard to build was turned upside down,” Economou wrote.
“Many people know Agung as the much-loved chef from Dick’s Hotel and Apache Salut, where he has quietly looked after people through food, smiles and friendship for more than five years.”
The hotel also thanked everyone who had donated to the fundraiser.
“In the midst of unimaginable grief, your kindness has been overwhelming. Together you have raised nearly $50,000,” it said.
“We can’t thank you enough for every donation and message. It truly means the world.”
7NEWS understands the other pedestrian, a 64-year-old man, had attended midday prayers at Lakemba Mosque and was walking home when he was struck.
The driver, an 82-year-old man, was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital for mandatory testing and further assessment.
