Meghan Markle’s former UK vet spoke about what the Duchess is really like as he opened up about a challenging time in her life when her late beloved beagle had to go through surgery. The Duchess of Sussex’s beagle, Guy, passed away in January of this year, with Meghan making a heartbreaking post about her loss. This will be her first Christmas without Guy since getting him in 2015.

Guy had already undergone surgery and now the vet who looked after him spoke about his experience with Prince Harry and Meghan. Professor Noel Fitzpatrick, an orthopaedic-neuro veterinary surgeo,n spoke to The Times about the encounter.

He said: “Meghan rang me from Canada, where she was living at the time, to say Guy, her beagle, had escaped and had been found with two busted ‘wrists’ [the carpus]. Would I operate? I agreed, and she brought him over.”

He added: “The duke and duchess sat on the floor. We had cake. Guy was fixed.

“He lived until January this year, and I had a wonderful note of gratitude from Meghan, which was sweet.”

Meghan posted a video on her Instagram page this January, paying a sweet tribute to her rescue beagle.

The video featured various clips and pictures of the sweet animal, thought to have been taken by the Duchess herself, including some featuring Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Meghan said Guy, who she adopted in 2015, was present throughout her biggest life moments, such as her engagement and marriage to Prince Harry and becoming a mother.

The Duchess said: “He was with me for everything: the quiet, the chaos, the calm, the comfort.”

She spoke about how her beagle suffered a “terrible accident” shortly before she moved to the UK in 2017 which led to him undergoing surgeries for months.

She revealed: “H and I would drive late at night, after hours, to see Guy as he recovered in Surrey for months on end.”
