A panic-inducing incident unfolded at the Forest Hill Chase shopping centre in Melbourne’s east today, as a man was spotted carrying a weapon in a crowded public area.

The Sequence of Events

At approximately 11:50 a.m., law enforcement authorities were alerted to reports of an individual acting suspiciously while armed within the shopping complex. Witnesses observed the man, who was wearing headphones, pacing back and forth near the Coles supermarket.

The sight of the weapon triggered immediate panic among shoppers, who rushed to seek refuge inside nearby stores until police arrived. One witness described the weapon to 3AW’s Tony Moclair, stating: “butcher’s boning knife, about eight inch long”.

Law Enforcement Response

Upon arrival at the scene, police successfully apprehended the 30-year-old suspect without any incident or further conflict.

Following the arrest, the man was transported to a hospital for an assessment. Authorities confirmed that no threats were made during the ordeal, and fortunately, there were no injuries reported.
