Former Magistrate and Convicted Paedophile Peter Liddy Released After 25 Years

After serving more than two decades behind bars, Peter Liddy, a former magistrate whose past crimes shocked the Australian public, has been officially released from prison.

Case Background

During the 1980s, while serving at a lifesaving club in South Australia, Liddy committed sexual abuse against four children. These heinous acts resulted in a 25-year prison sentence for the former official.

Although the government campaigned to keep the now 82-year-old behind bars, legal proceedings are still ongoing. In the interim, Liddy was released from a remand centre today and placed under home detention subject to strict conditions.

Strict Monitoring Measures

To ensure community safety regarding his release, authorities have implemented a series of rigorous controls:

Electronic Monitoring: Liddy will be tracked via electronic monitoring devices.

Restricted Access: The offender is strictly prohibited from accessing the internet.

Exclusion Zones: Liddy is barred from coming within 50 metres of any school or playground.

Currently, the government continues to aggressively pursue legal avenues to secure an indefinite prison term for Peter Liddy. If this effort is unsuccessful, the government has already filed applications to ensure he remains under strictly enforced monitoring.
