After initially denying that the show was not going off the air, Network 10 have confirmed to The Weekly that the beloved reality series, I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Australia has been cancelled.
Its return to television was questioned after TV Blackbox reported Ten’s US parent company, Paramount, had axed the series.
The publication further reported that its alleged cancellation was due to budget cuts within the network.
This theory was supported by I’m A Celebrity’s recent format changes. The most significant change was pre-recording the 2026 series rather than airing live, as it has done since the 2015 premiere. This allowed episodes to be filmed back-to-back. As a result, the show could cut costs of accommodating cast and crew over a longer period of time in South Africa, where they film the Australian iteration.

We spoke with Julia Morris ahead of the 2026 season (which featured the new format).
“I think it generates a series of super interesting moments,” Julia said at the time. “If you have to choose someone at work for a job that’s not as nice, how does that make them feel? Why’d you choose me?”
“From paranoia to elation to so many different feelings when you have to sit side by side with someone, and they just put you in a trial that, you know, they know you don’t want to do.”
However, this format meant that the audience couldn’t interact as much as in previous seasons. As a result, it wasn’t as engaging.

The Weekly has contacted Network 10 regarding the initial allegations, in which a spokesperson has said no decisions have been finalised. However, they shared an updated statement following the network’s decision.
“We have made the decision to rest I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2027 as we focus on offering our audience a range of content on all platforms,” a spokesperson said to The Weekly. “We look forward to working with Julia Morris and Robert Irwin on other projects.”
Both hosts have also made statements.
“I want to express what an absolute privilege it has been to work on this show for the past three seasons,” Robert Irwin said in his statement. “I grew up watching this show as so many Aussies do, so to be part of the fantastic team that make this series a reality felt like a dream come true. We have had the honour of sharing incredible stories and create a platform to shine a light on amazing charities that our celebrities have supported along the way. And to do it all alongside my co-host, and friend, Julia Morris, made it a truly life-changing experience that I will remember for the rest of my life.”
“I’m A Celebrity, and our whole jungle family who make this show have made it the best working experience of my lifetime,” said Julia Morris on the news. “I have loved every moment and will be forever grateful to Beverley and the whole team at Network 10 for not only believing in this show but nurturing it for 12 years. And to our jungle family watching from home, we love you.”

It is not unusual for networks to vet the success of shows and make changes. Similarly, last season, Australian Survivor had its host swapped in response to declining viewership.
Despite its dedicated fan base, viewership numbers dropped after I’m A Celebrity… episodes were pre-recorded, therefore changing how the audience interacts with evictions and challenges.
This news comes shortly after newcomer host Robert Irwin was confirmed to host the US iteration of Dancing With The Stars: The Next Pro. As Wildlife Warrior fans know, he was crowned the champion of the 2025 season and ultimately stole American hearts. Due to Robert’s phenomenal popularity, we should presume that this isn’t the last we’ve seen of the young Irwin on Australian screens.
