No one can believe that a good man like Khaled Malas could have d!:ed in such a horrific way

Homicide detectives have found a body in their search for a Melbourne father who went missing after allegedly being shot.

A desperate search has been underway for Khaled Malas, 37, who has not been seen since he was allegedly attacked at a home in Wildwood, north-west of the city, on August 19.

Police allege he was shot after a dispute, which is understood to involve a significant debt, and there were grave fears for his welfare.

Mohammed Aboueid, 56, has been charged with intentionally causing serious injury.

On Wednesday afternoon, investigators found human remains covered in grass on Havelock Road in Clarkefield, about 15 kilometres from Wildwood.

The coroner has been notified, and an autopsy is expected to take place.

Victoria Police said it would consider alternative charges upon receiving the results of the autopsy.

Remembered as a loving father

Omar, a long-time friend, said Mr Malas would be remembered as a family man who was deeply respected by his community.

He said Mr Malas, who arrived in Australia 14 years ago, “loved his young family and kids to death”.

“We remember him as a hard, honest worker that came to this country …  to achieve a dream,” Omar said.

“He was the sole son that was also providing for his parents overseas as well.”

He said the community was in shock.

“[They’re] in disbelief … how can a beautiful soul vanish in such [a] horrible way,” he said.
