A TERRIFYING fireball erupted from a burning MTA vehicle during rush hour, sending pedestrians sprinting for safety.

Dramatic video showed the car engulfed in flames before it suddenly exploded, forcing onlookers to flee in panic.

The blaze broke out Tuesday evening in Lower Manhattan, New York just steps from Wall Street’s famous Charging Bull statue.

Thick black smoke poured into the sky as the vehicle burned near Broadway and Stone Street.

The car was parked outside the MTA’s headquarters at 2 Broadway, a block from the landmark bull.

Footage from the scene showed people gathered nearby with their phones out as the fire grew more intense.

Moments later, the blaze erupted into a massive fireball.

Panicked pedestrians could be seen racing away from the blast as flames shot from the vehicle.

Police and firefighters were called to the scene at around 5:42 pm, the FDNY said.

The fire broke out during the busy evening commute, when the Financial District is packed with workers, tourists, and pedestrians.

Firefighters battled the blaze as smoke filled the area around one of New York City’s most recognizable tourist spots.

The flames were extinguished shortly before 7 pm, according to ABC7.

The FDNY said no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

There have been no reports suggesting the blaze was suspicious.

A picture shared on social media showed the charred remains of the vehicle outside a nearby Starbucks.

The MTA confirmed the car belonged to the agency.

The transit authority referred further questions about the fire to the FDNY.

The explosion briefly turned a busy stretch of Lower Manhattan into a chaotic scene as terrified pedestrians ran from the burning vehicle.

The incident happened just a short walk from Wall Street and the World Trade Center area.
