Rylan Clark has broken his silence on not being selected as the new host for BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing. Since Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman called it quits at the end of the last series, there has been much speculation about who might step into their shoes, with the This Morning star reportedly in the running.

Now, posting to his Instagram account, Rylan has confirmed that he was in “the race” for Strictly but it “wasn’t his time”. He emotionally penned: “Just wanted to say as it was reported that I was in ‘The Race’ for Strictly, the biggest congrats to my Emma and equal congrats to Johannes and Josh. You’re all going to have the best time. Made uo for you’s.” He added: “This wasn’t my time, sadly, but am extremely grateful to even have been considered.

“I’m taking the news really well (see next slide) but genuinely looking forward to the new series with you there x.”

The next post showed a clip of him sobbing and crying uncontrollably on the floor, which was originally from his time on X Factor.

In the comments, Rylan added: “Let’s keep this what it is. A genuine happiness for the three of them,” followed by some love heart emojis.

The BBC has announced on Tuesday that Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe and Johannes Radebe will be the three new hosts of Strictly Come Dancing in a major shake-up.

In a huge difference, this year’s line-up will feature three hosts instead of the usual two.

The BBC’s chief content officer Kate Phillips said in a statement: “Emma, Johannes and Josh’s chemistry is undeniable. There’s been so much speculation and hype, so I’m relieved we can share the news with the public at last! I’d like to thank all the brilliant people we saw before making this tough decision.

“But the most beloved ballroom in the UK always leads the way, and in a Strictly first we have chosen three outstanding hosts to take up the mantel. Along with our amazing Strictly team, who are busy planning fabulous and unforgettable treats for this new series, I know this terrific trio can’t wait to join our judges and pros to bring us must-see TV on the BBC this autumn.
