Officers with the Johns Creek Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance at a home in Johns Creek, Georgia, a city roughly 27 miles north of Atlanta, around 11:30pm on Sunday.

Upon arrivals, officers spoke with a young male who told them “a verbal altercation between his parents had escalated into a shooting,” the police department said.

Once officials entered the home, they found 52-year-old Richard Holladay dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and 43-year-old Martha Holladay dead from a gunshot wound to the head.

A preliminary investigation revealed Richard shot and killed his wife and then himself, though officials noted the investigation remains ongoing.

Their three male children, ages 17, 13 and 12 were inside the home at the time of the shooting and were found outside when police arrived, according to NBC affiliate WXIA.

The Johns Creek police department said the children are safe and investigators believe it was an isolated incident.

Authorities said they never responded to an incident at the home before the shooting on Sunday night.

Clips from the scene captured by local news outlets showed several cop cars and a crime scene unit van outside of the home.
